What’s Actually Standing Between You and Clear Skin
It’s not your skincare routine.
It’s not your diet.
And it’s definitely not the one “missing supplement.”
It’s your mindset.
Specifically, the belief that healing will only happen if you do everything right.
I’ve seen this pattern over and over again: someone is desperate to feel better, to get their skin under control, to finally feel confident again. And I get it. I was there too. For YEARS. They dive headfirst into all the “right” things - cutting out gluten and dairy, buying the expensive skincare, taking the probiotics, and spending hours researching online. Even protocols and things that are warranted.
But underneath it all is this pressure to be perfect. And it’s exhausting.
What’s worse is that it keeps people stuck in the same cycle. If one small thing goes “wrong”..they eat something outside their plan, get one breakout, miss a supplement..they assume the whole effort was a waste. So they give up, or they start over. Again and again.
That perfectionism isn’t helping. It’s hurting.
Because when you hold yourself to an unrealistic standard of doing everything flawlessly, you don’t leave any room to actually figure out what works. You're just trying to avoid mistakes, and that keeps you in a very narrow lane. In functional medicine, we often talk about root causes..but one root cause that’s often overlooked is this chronic stress loop that perfectionism creates.
Here’s what most people don’t realize: your nervous system is always listening.
When you’re anxious about food, constantly second-guessing your routine, or spiraling over a breakout, you’re signaling to your body that it’s not safe. And healing doesn’t happen when your body feels unsafe.
So if you’re trying to heal acne while constantly criticizing yourself, pushing for more control, or holding your progress hostage until things look perfect - you’re probably missing the bigger picture.
You don’t need to do it all at once.
You don’t need to be “on” 100% of the time.
You just need to stay consistent, be honest with yourself, and make choices from a place of support - not fear.
Sometimes, the most healing thing you can do is let go of the pressure. Let things be a little imperfect. Show up anyway.
Progress isn’t linear. And healing isn’t black and white.
It’s found in the middle - in the gray zone where you’re doing your best, learning as you go, and slowly building momentum that actually sticks.
The truth is, you might not feel ready to let go of the perfectionism because it gives you a sense of control. But control isn’t the same as clarity - and it definitely isn’t the same as healing.
And you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Having someone on your team who gets it is SO so powerful and it’s why I do what I do. If you’re ready to quit the endless loop of guessing, let’s work together to approach healing your skin in a SUSTAINABLE way that doesn’t run you into the ground.
